Subjects: Arthritic dogs with chronic pain
Time Period: 8 weeks
Methodology: 3 groups
- Group 1--No treatment (placebo)
- Group 2--Carprofen (NSAID)
- Group 3--Green Lipped Mussel (GLM)
Findings:
- GLM was more effective in reducing pain than the placebo, but not as effective as the NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug).
- GLM may be an effective, safer pain relief alternative over the long term or when NSAIDs cannot be used.
