Subjects: Obese arthritic dogs
Time Period: 90 days, plus 30-day withdrawal followup
Methodology: Three groups
- Group 1–No UC-II®
- Group 2–UC-II® at 1mg/day
- Group 3–UC-II® at 10mg/day
Findings:
- No changes in Group 1.
- Significant decline in pain and lameness for Groups 2 and 3, with greater improvement in Group 3. Physical activity level improved over time for Groups 2 and 3.
- When Groups 2 and 3 stopped receiving UC-II®, they all relapsed over 30 days and experienced greater pain and lameness.
- Adverse effects of UC-II® – None.
LUVAPUP (Graham) Comment: It's significant that UC-II® had a positive effect at the incredibly low dose of 1mg/day.
